Materials needed to complete the Fitgirlcode Guide

Have you heard? I am starting the Fitgirlcode Guide on the 16^th of April and I want you to join me! You have about 3 weeks left to mentally, and literally prepare. As in, there are some materials that you will need in order to do the Fitgirlcode Guide. But no worries, I am here to tell you exactly what you will need.
The Fitgirlcode Guide is going to open the gates to a healthy active lifestyle, so your food and work out habits will become those of a Fit Girl. It’s much easier then you may think, and in no time you will have reached your goal. So, what exactly should we prep? There are 3 things!

1. Fit Girl outfit

Just like everything else, it all starts with a nice outfit. A supportive sports bra is the first thing that you need to put on your check list! There is nothing worse then doing a work out and feeling uncomfortable while doing it. Some of the sports bra brands I love are Reebok and Under Armour. They are not too expensive, true to size, and really support the girls ?.

Next, you will need some fitting leggings. I always seem to struggle with finding the right leggings because I don’t like them when they’re too tight and I always need high-waisted ones. I also particularly like cropped leggings as they are less warm. Gymshark is definitely the perfect go-to as they have a range of different types of leggings and colours. Finally, we cannot forget about the shoes! For the Fitgirlcode Guide you don’t need anything too fancy. Just make sure to have comfortable shoes that will literally keep you on your feet.

2. Workout accessories (optional)

Working out on the floor isn’t the most comfortable thing ever and it definitely is not good for your back! Solution: get yourself a nice yoga mat. This shouldn’t cost you more than $15 so it is a small and worthy investment. I got mine from Body & Fit and my back is very happy with it.

You don’t really need any particular accessories for the workouts that the Fitgirlcode Guide asks of you. However, there are some things you could get in order to make it a bit more challenging. For example a resistance band, and/or some dumbbells and a kettlebell. You can get these anywhere, from Grace Fit UK, to Amazon, just type it in on Google and the best deals for you will pop up.

3. Kitchen utilities

One of the 3 parts in the Fitgirlcode Guide focuses on food and healthy eating. For this it provides you with a weekly food schedule and grocery list. The recipes in the food schedules are very balanced and so you will find yourself cooking and baking up all sorts of things in your kitchen. For some recipes you will need particular kitchen utilities. The first is a blender. You will use a blender weekly as you make the smoothies and you can also use the blender to make your bake mixes. The prices for blenders range immensely, but a suitable one will cost you about $50.

Next, you should definitely invest in a cake mold. This is because of the desserts and breads (for example banana bread) that you will make. The easiest way to successfully make these is by using a cake mold. For a good one that will prevent your food from sticking to the side too much, you should expect to pay between $10-20.

Finally, throughout the Fitgirlcode Guide you will cross paths with some healthy waffle recipes. So, you could buy a waffle iron or make sure to borrow one from a friend once in a while. A waffle iron that does the job will cost around $20. The oat waffles are totally worth it!

There you have it! Everything that you could expect to need when doing the Fitgirlcode Guide. Isn’t so bad, is it? I am luckily already equipped with sportwear, though I always get tempted by new releases and discounts. Attention ladies! There is a brand new sports brand in the market that I’m going to tell you about today. And trust me, you want to know everything about this one. What if I told you that these sports leggings cause you to burn more calories than usual? I bet that got your attention, huh?

TOUGHER WORKOUTS

Okay, I can understand that a concept like this may sound too good to be true. I mean, a pair of sports leggings that ensures that you lose weight faster sounds like a bit of an urban legend. But, that couldn’t be further from the truth, because the Physiclo leggings are specially built to make your workouts more difficult so that you have to push yourself harder to complete them.

When I was first asked if I wanted to be sent a pair of these leggings so that I could test them out, of course I couldn’t say no to that. It’s simple: if I hear that a pair of sports leggings can make my daily workouts harder, I want to get to the bottom of it.

The concept is not rocket science, and that’s why I want to shortly explain it: the leggings by Physiclo combine resistance bands with athletic wear. You no longer need to walk with a resistance band when you feel like doing something extra in your workout, because simply wearing the Physiclo leggings already takes care of that for you. The panels that are incorporated into the leggings make literally every movement harder. Even taking a walk around your neighborhood will be more challenging than normal.

The looks

It’s, of course, amazing that all your workouts are even more effective with this legging, but if it was ugly as f*ck, I honestly wouldn’t want to wear it. While comfort is very important, I also want to feel good and confident about what I’m wearing when I go to workout. These leggings only come in a handful of colors, but the variation that they do have all looks very good. Simple, but beautiful, I love it! I chose the full length grey and black version in size S. The sizes run a bit small, but I didn’t have an issue with it. Because I’m a size between S and M, it fit me perfectly.

When it arrived a week later and I checked it out, I actually had to gulp. Because woah, this is anything but a normal pair of sports leggings. Even though you don’t see it initially, you get the feeling that you’re building extra muscle definition in your legs. I Whatsapped my friends immediately after to let them see how much my quads had grown in one hour, haha!

THE EFFECT OF THE LEGGING

Physiclo states that when you wear one of their leggings during your workout, you burn up to 14% more calories than without it. On top of that, your muscles are triggered 23% more. Logically, that means that you can workout for a shorter period, and get the same results. Super efficient!

Of course, I had to test out this assertion. I walked into the gym somewhat nervously – would people notice the ‘bulkyness’? I did my regular leg day and, I swear, after just 10 minutes I was sweating way more than usual. Even though you’re still incredibly flexible in these leggings, the job of doing certain exercises just takes way more effort out of you. It’s perfectly suited for runners, so I chose to go run and see how it is. And wow, that was just so tough. My heart rate skyrocketed within 5 minutes. I have the feeling that when you wear the Physiclo leggings, you need to start from scratch building back up your strength and endurance. I find it awesome, because it provides that extra challenge!

They do advise you, though, not to wear these leggings for more than 2 hours. After that, your legs really deserve some rest. And trust me, that’s what you’ll want too. 😉

Jogha and denim: wearing sportswear everyday

At #FITGIRLCODE HQ, it’s not a surprise if I walk into the office to see many wearing their workout clothes typing away on their laptops. Working a 9-5:30 means that most of our exercise happens right after work. And if you want to get home to eat dinner before you starve, it makes sense that you’d want to make the transition from work to workout as quick as you can. The solution: wear as much of your gym gear as possible.

It (sadly) wasn’t always easy or socially acceptable to wear workout clothes all day long. Winter really feels like it’s approaching now with more cold, wet and grey days. It was too good to be true. These are ultimate winter must haves for any fashion loving girl. I love long and wide clothing. Lovely to hide away from winter and wear to hang out on the couch. Almost like being at home! It is very comfy but also looks stylish in (if you do have to go out the door). SUEDE SKIRT

This skirt is really awesome. I really like everything with suede and the related Pocahontas-look. During my summer holiday in Ibiza I bought a similar skirt with buttons on it and I am so happy that I did! When I cam across this skirt but in black only this week, I had to have it. Heck, you only live once I guess. Such a skirt can be combined with so many different things. A sweater, a top, a long cardigan … and of course thick tights underneath. Then you’re ready for winter!

SCARF

You can’t have a complete winter wardrobe without it: a warm scarf. How could I leave this out of a list of winter must haves. Especially with the rain and the wind we get here. I never leave the house without a scarf, preferably one that has a hood is even better to handle the terrible weather. I really have a million scarves lying in my closet, but for some reason I always look forward to wearing my favourite burgundy red one. Still, I find this white one very nice too!

Jogha launches the Limitless Collection

Why a good sports bra is important

The last thing I want to think about during my workout, is my boobs being all over the place. And trust me, I’ve had it a thousand times. At first I thought that I might be a little too enthusiastic while working out and that’s why my breasts are constantly bouncing up and down. While running, during my burpees, actually all the time working out… The entire gym could enjoy the view. Until I realized that maybe it wasn’t me, but the sports bras I was wearing.

During our workouts we’re all very active and it’s only natural that our boobies are moving with us. This has to do with the fact that our breasts consist of fat and don’t have any muscles that can support these movements. That’s why it’s important for us Fit Girls that we don’t just wear a random bra, but a good, professional sports bra. It gives us support during our workouts to maintain the firmness of our breasts. All that bouncing around is not very good for your girlfriends, and on top of that, it doesn’t look very charming. The wrong sportsbra can even damage the connective tissue in your breasts and make them saggy. Yikes, we don’t wat that!

It’s important to choose the right sports bra and this depends on the size of your breasts and the type of sport you’re practicing. Personally, I’ve recently purchased the Sports Bra of the new Jogha Fearless collection and I’ve got to say: I’m sold! It was a difficult choice, but eventually I went for the Salmon Sports Bra. Except for the fact that it’s reaaally pretty, it fits me very well too! I’ll admit that the pastel colours drew my attention at fit and I afterwards asked myself the question: “ok, but will it also offer me good support?” After I tried it on and jumped around a few times, I thought: “yes, this one is mine!” The bra offers me good support during my workout and I have no trouble with boobies flying around. I also feel super sexy and feminine in them, yes score!

Moreover, my cup size fluctuates a lot. Some months I find myself wearing a cup B and others even a D no idea how that’s possible but obviously I like to have some options. My closet is full with different sizes sportsbras. The Freedom Rush Racer Back Bra is next one my list. I’ve already got the Freedom Rush Long Tights in my closet so yes, that’s a good excuse to buy a matching bra, right? I really like the cutout detail on the back and the removable padding ensures that you get enough support during your workout.

8 #FITGIRLCODE festival essentials

Our favourite play time activity at #FITGIRLCODE is going to an outdoor festival on the weekends! There’s nothing like dancing for the equivalent of a 10K run in the sun and showing off that booty you’ve been working on for months. I have compiled a list of summer festival essentials that are meant to combine fashion and the optimal festival experience:

Fanny pack- This type of bag will make your life so easy while dancing and grooving, and you won’t need to worry about misplacing it anywhere. You can wear it around your waist or across your shoulder, so many possibilities!
Romper with pockets- rompers provide comfort since they are soft and are not constraining, and they also allow adequate air flow to parts of your body that might get sweaty. Look for one with pockets so that you have a place to stow away any trinkets you find, like a lead singer’s guitar pick or your roommate’s keys that she is afraid to lose.
Wild and round sunglasses- Let loose with animal print-inspired sunglasses, I’ve chosen one pair of thick glasses and one pair of thin. Which suits you best?
Choker necklace- This accessory is easy to pair with any outfit, and you can keep it on all weekend without worrying about it or taking it off to swim, shower, or any other activities you wouldn’t want to wear your precious stones while doing.
Suede shorts or skirt- suede is a material that will make you stand out, and you’re sure to wear the item in the future as well as suede can be worn all year round. I love this eye-catching red colour and, again, pockets always come in handy!
Monochrome sneakers- are you an all-black or an all-white girl? Take your pick between these amazing sneakers that can seriously be worn anywhere from the office to a party. Keep in mind that if bad weather is forecasted for the day of your festival, you might want to stick to a very old pair of shoes since achieving the perfect festival outfit is not worth ruining these beauties.
Fedora hat- Stay cool, protected, and fashionable with this colour block fedora hat. The price is totally reasonable and there are many colour options!
Oversized denim jacket- just as comfortable as it is stylish, an oversized vintage Levi-style denim jacket is perfect for a chilly evening once the sun goes down. I highly recommend buying this at a secondhand store near you, otherwise you will often overpay and the quality of the original Levi’s is just unbeatable.

I’ve also thought of some essential non-clothing items that you’ll be glad to have, especially if you’re going to a longer festival. Don’t forget to pack:

dry shampoo or taft volume powder (Andrélon sells both)
baby wipes
a hand-held fan
a portable phone charger

– the mesh muscle tee. You might remember the black and white muscle tees from Jogha’s Badass collection. These babies will still be around and will now also be available in a polyester mesh fabric. As breathable as you can imagine, you will be looking cool both literally and figuratively. We just want to wear these all the time!

These are all the sneak peaks we are able to give you for now, but I think it’s safe to say that our workouts will soon become more empowered and fashionable than ever in the Fearless collection. Always remember to breathe, especially during your intense WOD. Since breathing is the most essential thing we do, Jogha decided to add mesh details to the new Fearless collection to make sure you can breathe and move as much as you please while rocking your Jogha items.

Many pieces in the Fearless collection have been upgraded to contain dark gray mesh details in places that are eye-catching and are practical for you.

WHY MESH?

The mesh is functional. The new collection moves better and breathes better because of it, and you will feel the difference. If you overheat, you know it will be due to the effort you are putting into your workout and not because of constraining clothes. You’ll find mesh details on the front and back of the Racerback Bra and Racerback Tank, on the back of the Gym Bra, and in strategic locations on all of the bottoms so you can sprint, squat, and cozy up just how you like to.

We believe that Jogha clothes are just as well suited for your trip to the gym as they are for your #OOTD. The new mesh details are fashionable and are a true improvement in the design of the collection. The mesh is subtle enough to not overpower the bold Jogha prints, but adds an extra element of style to the garment. Sportswear is not only about showing how sporty you are- it is also important to feel confident and comfortable in clothing that is functional and easy to wear on the street or in the gym.

No unicorns were harmed in the making of the Fearless collection. You may know that Jogha is a fair wear and sustainable brand, and we believe that in order to be able to fully enjoy our environment we must take good care of it.

Jogha works with some pretty amazing people, and we think that it is important to share this with you so you know how awesome your Jogha clothes really are! Jogha clothing is produced by the Yeh Group in Thailand, an innovative and sustainable factory with stellar working conditions.

DryDye TECHNOLOGY

For the upcoming Fearless collection, the tees were produced using the revolutionary DryDye technology. DryDye is a waterless technology that uses air instead of the usual 25 litres of water to dye a shirt, resulting in much less energy and unnecessary chemicals used in the process. Recycled CO2 is used instead, and 95% of it can again be recycled to be utilized to dye more beautiful clothing.

We can assure you that the fit, feel, and look of the items were not compromised by the use of DryDye, but rather the quality of the pieces was enhanced.

You spoke, we listened. The first feature of the Fearless collection we would like to highlight is an overall improved fit.

Finding sportswear that makes you feel confident, beautiful, and strong is essential if you want to stay motivated to reach your goals in and out of the gym. We heard your comments loud and clear about the fit of the Badass collection so we made several changes to the new collection to make you feel Fearless in the new items.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM THE FEARLESS COLLECTION?

We have lengthened our bottoms! Since we received many comments about our tights falling above the ankle instead of being truly ‘long’, we have added some centimeters to all of our Long Tights while maintaining a close-fitting ankle. We have also introduced mesh details to make the garments more breathable and perfectly molding to your legs. The adjustable string has also been extended to go all the way around your booty so you can make your Jogha tights fit snugly.

We have completely revamped the Racerback Bra. Finding a sports bra that supports you without squishing you and that lets you breathe but stays in place is quite the challenge. We have taken all of your feedback into account and have remodeled the Jogha Racerback Bra to maximize your comfort and performance! Removable padding has been introduced so that you can choose your level of support. Yes, you heard right, removable padding! You will also find a small strip of breathable mesh both in the front and back to enhance the look and feel of the bra. The bra has been topped off with an elegant and supportive black elastic band.

Our jackets have been seriously upgraded. You told us that the fit of the Reversible Jacket was too small so we have made them larger; you can now snuggle up before, during, and after your workout in a jacket that is true to your size. Small design changes have been made, such as the addition of pockets on the inside as well as the zip pockets on the outside. The new, innovative material we have used for the Fearless collection jackets is thicker, employing more fashionable stitching and making this jacket very suitable for outdoor sporting.

Jogha Fearless collection launch

Back in 2013 I had the dream of starting my own sportswear line. Now, the second Jogha sportswear collection, the Fearless collection, is finally almost ready for launch! Last week was busy with some final preparations as we had the official photoshoot and on the very same day, I flew off to Thailand for a 48 hour production trip.

On November 17th 2014, we launched the very first Jogha sportswear line named, the Badass collection. This collection truly was a great success and we learned so much from the first range of clothing. We believe in the phrase, “Do the best you can, until you know better. Then when you know better, do better”. So now all that we want is to be even better! We took our time and turned to the most important people: our Jogha customers. They spoke and we listened. They gave us so many great ideas and now we bring you the improvements in our new sportswear, the Fearless collection.

What exactly did we improve?

We made lots of changes to improve the general fit of all of the garments as well as designing additional features and adding new variations. As all of the small sizes of the Badass collection sold out quickly, we decided that we needed to have more small and medium sizes available for the Fearless collection so that you won’t be disappointed.

Tights and bottoms: The feedback we received about our Long Tights was that they weren’t exactly very “long”, but more an above the ankle length. For the Fearless collection we ensure that we have made the Long Tights longer and we’ve also added a new capri length legging with a completely new look and feel.

Tops: We listened very closely to all of the feedback considering the sports bras as this is such an an essential item in a woman’s sportswear wardrobe. Firstly we made big changes to our Racerback Bra, so much so that you won’t even recognize it as the same bra any more. Not everything has completely changed however, the Gym Bra returns as before but with an overall improved fit. And lastly, because a bra is so important we added a completely new style, the Sports Bra, that will blow your mind.

Jackets: The Reversible Jackets are now made from a new revolutionary material and we decided to make the fit a little more oversized, so you can snuggle away in it after your workout.

Fair wear and Sustainability

We are a fair wear brand that has demanded sustainable production from day one. But this isn’t something we have been advertising because it’s normal to us, it’s what just we do. However by not communicating this directly to our customers, we risked the chance that they didn’t even know the extent of how awesome their sportswear was! But the newest sustainable feature of this collection, DryDye technology, is just too incredible not to share it with you. This exclusive technology is a completely waterless dyeing method which uses recycled C02 to dye the DryDye pieces in this collection and is the first of many sustainable ways we want to produce our sportswear.

The Fearless Photoshoot in Rotterdam

To capture the new Fearless collection, our incredibly talented photographer Victor Kruit shot around 1500 pictures during the official photoshoot last Wednesday in Rotterdam. With over 6o pieces in this collection, the shoot took place from 8am in the morning to 5pm in evening. It was the first time that we were able to see the collection come to life thanks to the help of our beautiful models and it was amazing!

48 Hour production trip to Thailand

Just as well, I am a CEO in sneakers and straight after the shoot I has to rush off to Schiphol Airport and hop on board of a flight to Thailand. But this wasn’t for a holiday. I took the trip to visit the factories we work with, as there were still some small things we noticed on the photoshoot which had to be changed and taken care of asap!

After the very last fitting I was given an exclusive a tour through the factory where I got to witness the start of the production of the full collection!

The comeback of the one-piece swimsuit

Ever since I was little I remember wearing a bikini. But the older I get, the prettier I seem to find one-piece swimsuits. Up until this year, I always skipped the one-piece. But why? Is it because it makes me think of athletes and my grandma or because they make me get weird tan lines? Let’s find out.

The history of the one-piece
Can you imagine that we ever went into the water with ankle length garments? Well, we did. When beach holidays became popular in the 19th century, a sunkissed tan wasn’t as fancy as it is nowadays. People covered their bodies to keep their skin pale. Luckily, women eventually realized that this is totally unpractical, so the swimsuits became shorter and shorter. From 1900, there is a rising demand to more comfortable outfits. Women started to join swim competitions, so the suits became tighter and shorter. During the twenties, the one-piece started to look like the current variant.

Competition
In 1946, the bikini was introduced. That was the point that it went totally wrong with the one-piece. The bikini became the symbol of sexyness, the one-piece became the opposite. With some exceptions of course, think Pamela Anderson in her red Baywatch edition.

And still, anno 2015, a lot of people associate one-piece swimsuit with dullness and prudery. Especially the male part of the population. But why? When I see someone wearing a one-piece I get envious most of the time because they look so feminine and sexy. So, I did some asking around and I came to the conclusion that it really depends on what you wear and how you wear it. More about that later.

First, what is really outdated and what does a one-piece looks like anno 2015? The biggest trends are cut out swimsuits and monokini’s. The cut out is the opposite of dullness! It makes you look sexy and confident because you’re one of those girls who dares to wear it! Especially the ones with a deep cut out neckline are very popular. When a one-piece has that much cut out that there is not that much more left than a bikini, it’s called a monokini. You still are gonna get some weird tan lines because of the shape, but it’s not that bad. Make sure you just don’t wear it every day..

What to wear
When you have a apple figure, you have broad shoulders, big breasts, small hips and a little belly. A bandeau variant will make your boobs look a little smaller, while a pre-formed one will make them look bigger. A printed one piece will make you look slimmer.

If you have a pear figure, your hips are firmer than your shoulders and breasts and you’ve got an amazing butt. Make sure you show that one off! To make your breasts look bigger, wear a one-piece with details that are focused on the chest srea.

With an hourglass body you can pretty much wear any one-piece you like. You’ve got some good curves for a swimsuit. An hour glass figure also means you have a small waist, so make sure you highlight it.

Are you a rectangle? Your body is slim and athletic, but you don’t have many curves. By wearing a deeply cut one-piece, you will look longer and your boobs will look bigger. Decorations will make your body more voluminous.
