Beauty Benefits of Coconut Oil

I am pretty sure most of you have heard about coconut oil and that it’s really good for your health. But did you also know that coconut oil has a lot more to offer besides the healthy fats?? I bet you didn’t!

Last year I had a total epiphany when I read an article with the title ‘50 ways to use coconut oil!! I didn’t tried them all but I have tried a few and I’m totally hooked! My personal favorite is to use it instead of a shaving cream. Bye bye red bumps, in growing hairs and skin irritation!! I almost started with the hair laser removal treatment, but coconut oil saved my bank account!

I always buy 2 jars, one to use in the kitchen for cooking and one to use in the bathroom, so I don’t have to juggle around with the jars. An important thing to know about coconut oil is that it’s melting point is quite low. If the temperature is above 76 degrees (24 C), the oil becomes liquid. So watch out with opening the jar during summer time!

Here are my 15 favorites of how you can use this Wonder of Nature!

  • My number ONE favorite! Use it instead of a shaving cream.
  • Use it as a make-up remover! This is a really soft way to clean your eyelashes. It will also give them a healthy ‘boost’.
  • Use it as the base for a homemade body scrub.
  • Keep a little container in your purse for lip moisturizer.
  • Use it as a styling agent if you have really dry hair. Just rub a tiny bit on your palms and apply to your hair and style as normal.
  • It’s a natural sunscreen SPF 8.
  • Massage into your nails a cuticles to help strengthen them.
  • Use it on the delicate tissue around your eyes to help prevent wrinkles and sagging.
  • Apply to bee stings or bug bites to soothe and heal the wound.
  • Spread a thin layer on cuts, burns or cold sores to speed up the healing process.
  • Use to help reduce visibility of stretch marks or to prevent them.
  • Rub it in your skin when still damp from taking a hot shower. You pores will soak it up in a few seconds and your skin will be baby soft!
  • Use on cracked or rough heels to help smooth them out.
  • Eat a spoonful when you need an energy boost!! Pre-Workout!
  • It’s reduces Keratosis Pilaris (A skin disorder. Tiny little red bumps on the back and/or front of your upper arms). Trust me, it works!!

So I guess the secrets out! Can’t wait to try it? You can order this magical goodie right here at

It’s all about posture

We had an awesome training with Inge Stufkens, who blogs for Model Workout and is a model for Q’s models. Inge lives in Milan, but was on holiday here in The Netherlands. We have regular contact with her about achieving the right Model Lifestyle and a little while ago we got together for a super work out. We mainly focused on having the right posture, something we should all do, whether you’re a model or not. It’s all about posture!

Inge StaandThere’s work to do! Let’s find the right posture!
It’s important for Inge to focus on having the right posture. This is mandatory when doing fashion shows or taking pictures. How do you tighten your core? What’s the best way to stand and in what way can you use your body to rock the runway?

Inge en Paul 1Tough love from Paultje!
When Paultje is correcting people on their posture, the main focus is on the pelvis, back and shoulders. Most people nowadays spend hours behind the computer. Even the models that we train. Paultje wants everyone to stand up straight using an imaginary line from the top of your head all the way to your tailbone. Shoulders should be down and certainly not bend forward. One little trick to stand up straight is to really tighten your butt. Squeezing it as if you have to hold a little coin with it. 😉

Inge and Paultje practicing presentation: Stand up straight please 🙂

inge en paul 2No matter what your profession is one thing is always important and that is how you present yourself. You can only make one first impression! Note for everyone; Breathe! Not only while exercising do people tend to stop breathing but also when being nervous, afraid and overly happy. Be aware of your breathing in a natural way. There is no need to extremely focus on it cause it’s a natural thing to do. Otherwise you would’ve been dead already 😉

The other most important thing is being self conscious. Be in the moment, know what you are doing and what can you do to improve. If it’s about training, ask yourself if your technique while doing your excercises is good, if so not perfect. Besides being fully aware of your being during sports, it’s also very helpfull to every now and then stand still by the things you are doing at the very moment. Why are you doing it and where does it lead you to? Try to be as grounded as possible, that way you are always able to present yourself just the way you are. Which should be good enough!

How to deal with flared ribs

Recently, we received a question from Ilona. She is a true Fit Girl who likes to work out a lot. However, she recently noticed something about the upper part of her body. Her stomach gets more flat, but because she has flared ribs, her ribs become more visible. She is now wondering what she can do to make her flared ribs less apparent.

First of all, flared ribs are something that you cannot change that easily. It belongs to the structure of your body and many people claim there’s not a lot you can do about it. It’s just a part of your body that is always and already naturally there. Shortly said: genetics. Some people have more flared ribs than others, just as some girls have bigger breasts than others.

Some say that you can make your flared ribs less apparent by breathing exercises. They claim that breathing and body posture are the reasons why you have flared ribs. So you could try that to correct your body posture or a breathing exercise. For example, lie on your back and put your feet on a wall while your knees are bent in a 90 degrees angle. Inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth.  This will train your muscles to breath in a correct way.

However, some say you can make them less apparent by building muscles and doing exercises. You can try out barbell curls or triceps pushdowns. In these exercise you feel that you are training the part above your flared ribs. This could make the flared ribs less apparent.

Thus, many people claim different things. You can always try these, but don’t expect too much from it. Please think of yourself as beautiful and your flared ribs as a part of your body that makes you unique. I know this is hard sometimes, but there are just some things that cannot be changed.

Also, please remember that we are not professionals whatsoever. I’ve tried to find a solution for this question. But in order to be sure, I would advise you to contact a trainer at the gym or someone else who has the professional knowledge about this stuff.

Ilona has them and I have them as well! Are there any other people that have flared ribs?

And the lucky winner of the FRENDS giveaway is….

Emily! Congratulations Emily, you and your sister are the lucky winners of the FRENDS giveaway! We were inspired by your story and hope you’ll enjoy the headphones.

Didn’t win? Don’t worry! There are many other headphones or earplugs! We have found some headphones that you might like as well including the FRENDS headphones of course. It might be good to know that there are several options to choose from: headphones, earphones (buds), and wireless headphones. It’s always good to find out which headphones are the more appropriate for the type of body movement you’re engaged in and which ones will feel and look better. In short, how can you chose the best ones for you?

ella b in ear

Not the winner? But still wanting the headphones from FRENDS? This is the Ella B in-ear headphone. Simple and beautiful.

dr beat

If your ears are really small, you can get annoyed with wearing earphones because they tend to fall out. For this reason you can try out these headphones that won’t fall off your head when you’re exercising. A plus is also that this headphone doesn’t have any wires that you can get tangled up in.

Because we are build differently, it’s very important to look for a pair of earphones that best fit our needs (and ears) and to get the best out of our music and workouts!  Since you can’t really try these things on in the store, always go for a set of earphones that includes several pairs of rubber adaptors of different sizes.

If you feel like you need more support, you can also try these earbuds for more support if you feel like that earplugs are always falling out with other earphone models.

Did you find these suggestions useful? Are you a proud owner of any of these gears and have some feedback for us? What kind of head/ear phones are you currently using?

*We have contacted the winner

No stress: Treat yourself with beauty products

I love to treat myself by giving myself little presents like facial masks or special shower products. Sometimes a girl just gotta relax and what better way to do this with beauty products? I’ve selected some products that will definitely help you to relax in our sometimes busy and stressful lives.

Facial masks

It’s good to protect the skin on your face against irritations from outside. Especially with this hot and sunny weather, because your skin can become too dry. This facial mask will restore the humidity balance of your skin.

Beautifying oil

Beautifying oil helps to make your skin look silky soft. Only a drop of oil will give your skin a glow. You can use this oil for your body, your face and your hair.

This hot weather requires some extra care for your hair. That’s why I picked out this conditioner that helps the hair restore its natural balance.

Reed diffuser

A couple of weeks ago I came across these babies and I love them already! These will make your house smell like fresh washed laundry and who doesn’t like that smell? Moreover, it  is also super easy, just put these somewhere in your house and they will radiate the nice smell.

This scrub hydrates and cleans your skin. Try this out: before you go on summer vacation and get a tan, scrub your body. This will remove all the dead skin cells and makes place for new ones. When you get tanned, this will happen on the new ones and as a result will make your tan last longer.

They are super comfortable with a low crotch for a casual (badass) fit.

I absolutely love these pink shoes from Nike. They bright up my outfit anyday! I always wear them when I’m wearing a casual outfit. See one of my latest articles (chick on kicks) about how to wear these pinkies after a work-out.

Let’s talk stretch marks!

A couple of days ago, Karrueche Tran, the current girlfriend of Chris Brown, posted a photo on her Instagram of “her” booty that included stretch marks. She wanted to show the world that there is nothing wrong with having these tiger stripes. However, the booty belonged to someone else and the owner wanted the picture to be removed. She then posted a picture of her own stretch marks on Instagram but removed it again after a couple of hours.

Despite the fact that both pictures were removed, Karrueche is right. Having stretch marks is only natural and is something one does not have to be ashamed of. I asked the girls from Fitgirlcode if they have any stretch marks. Turns out, almost everybody has them. And did you know that 90% of women all over the world have stretch marks? Browsing through the web, I came to only one conclusion: most women have these tiger stripes. And girls, guys can get stretch marks too ;).

But what are stretch marks and why do they appear?

Stretch marks are lines that can appear on different parts of your body. Especially in the beginning, stretch marks are somewhat red or purple. But most stretch marks turn white after a while and become less noticeable. Stretch marks can appear on your body at every moment in your life. Most stretch marks appear on breasts, butts, hips and thighs. This can happen during your teenage years, but also when you are older. Examples of when tiger stripes can appear are growth spurts (for example during your teenage years), gaining a lot of weight at a fast pace (for example during pregnancy), bodybuilding (results into a rapid body change), or just simple plain genes. The most important part about getting them is the hormones that are paired with gaining weight. Also, many people believe they can prevent stretch marks, but this is often not the case. However, you should always try to maintain a healthy lifestyle in order to prevent excessive weight gain and you have to take good care of yourself.

Having stretch marks is thus completely natural. So what do we do? Not worry! What are stretch marks? Fierceful tiger stripes! What do we think of them? They’re beautiful! So girls, try to see them as scars of the battles you have fought during your life and try to remember that everyone has them.

Trouble in paradise: bikini stress

Bikini season is almost around the corner and you obviously want a beautiful bikini that boosts your body shape. However, what to wear when you have big boobs or if you are insecure about your belly? These questions pop-up every summer and it’s time to get some answers!

#1. Big boobs. For girls who have quite some boobs, one word should always be kept in mind: support. Bikinis that have under wiring will help you get that support and that extra lift that bandeau bikinis will not provide. A lot of nice bikinis can be found that have under wire in their top pieces. Moreover, always make sure that you find a shop that sells bikini tops and bottoms separately since you often need different sizes. Personally, I love this bikini from ASOS.

#2. Small boobs. Bandeau bikinis, triangle bikinis, every bikini fits girls who have small boobs. However, some girls are insecure about their small boobs and would love to have a size bigger. To add some extra volume, you can choose for a bikini with frenzies that makes your boobs look bigger in an optical way. And if you still don’t like this, you can always go for a bikini with a push-up effect. This bikini from Forever21 matches the festival trend for this summer and is perfect for a lazy day on the beach.

#3. Belly. If you are feeling uncomfortable about your belly, try bikinis that hide your tummy. These bikinis will slim down your figure while maintaining your feminine shapes. High waistbands are the ideal solution for this. This neon pink bikini from Forever21 is absolutely stunning! Also, I love that they are using a plus-size model and have a special plus-size clothing line!

#4. Thighs (full hips). If you have full hips, try to find a top piece with a nice print that attracts attention to the upper part of your body. Moreover, try to avoid bikini bottoms that have bow ties on the side, because these will make your hips look wider. What works best are classic bikinis that have high cut bottoms, but you can also go for a bikini that has a skirted bottom in a solid color . This bikini bottom from ASOS has a nice black color and covers up perfectly.

Do you have a personal favorite? What type of body do you have and what type of bikini do you wear?

Cellulite and how to deal with it

It’s almost sunny bikini season and I’m far from ready for it! My legs haven’t seen the sun in what feels like ages and in my head I somehow think I can just jump in a bikini and hit the beach! I mean, it’s not like I indulged in cheat meals over Easter or anything…

So a couple of days ago I tried on one of those white bikinis from the new Giselle Bündchen H&M collection and, at a closer look in the mirror, there it was, my worst enemy, my greatest fear, the destroyer of confidence – Cellulite – *GASP*!!!

Immediate action must be taken, so I went home and did my research, which turned out to be very fruitful and useful in dealing with that pesky thing that’s just so hard to get rid off! Needless to say there were dozens of myths and misconceptions to weed out but also a ton of information that turned out to be quite useful! I’m going to share all my newly acquired knowledge and experience with you!

What I really want to make clear: NO SHAME – all women can get it. No matter if you’re skinny or struttin’ some curves, this evil enemy can still get under your skin (pun intended). There are several reasons why this can happen, among which poor nutrition, fad dieting, slow metabolism, hormone changes, lack of physical activity and even dehydration (note to self: drink more water).

First things first: What is cellulite?

Cellulite is a persistent type of fat, that gathers under your skin, especially in the areas of the hips and thighs, and causes a dimpled, lumpy appearance. This can vary from an ‘orange peel’ look all the way to ‘cottage cheese’. Most of us have it and we all hate it, which is why you’re not going to like the next bit.

It’s hereditary! Why thank you, dear genes! This means that certain genes like gender, race, slow metabolism or circulatory insufficiency can predispose you to developing unwanted adipose tissue. Moreover, hormones apparently have a say in this too, especially insulin, noradrenaline (enables the body to perform well in stressful situations), and thyroid hormones. You can prevent it though – Just stay away from refined and processed foods, SUGAR, dairy and all kinds of fatty products.

Cellulite and how to deal with it

Good news is you CAN get rid of it, BUT it takes time and perseverance…

  • Most importantly – EXERCISE – Make sure you get a lot of blood flow into those areas! It will make you feel good and look good. Cellulite can also be caused by muscular atrophy, a condition that occurs when a layer of muscle becomes weak, undefined and separates from the skin, which is why exercise is so important! Oh! Spice up your life (and food), that helps burn calories & increase blood flow!
  • Scrub Up – massaging your thighs using scrub can stimulate micro circulation, will make your skin look smoother and you’ll benefit from a bonus arm workout in the shower. Make sure you use circular movements, from bottom to top, guiding the blood flow towards your heart. One of my favorites is the Blueberry Body Scrub Jelly from Bodyshop. You can even make your own by mixing 1tbsp of used ground coffee, 1tbsp of coconut oil, 1tbsp of brown sugar and a dash of cinnamon.
  • You can also use one of these handy massagers to do the job ( you don’t wanna scrub off all your skin layers ). Use this baby to massage your target areas every time you hit the shower – yeah it won’t work overnight!
  • Creams DO help! They rehydrate your skin and help it gain more elasticity after working out. Look for one that also contains caffeine or Gingko Biloba – a substance that oxidises fat cells and strengthens your veins to improve blood circulation! It also increases your ability to remember things! Not bad, huh?!

Well, now you know what to do, go on, get one step closer to your perfect thighs! What are your super secret tips on dealing with this confidence crusher ?
