Pre ski season workout
I love skiing. I have been skiing since I was three years old. As a kid, I would race down those mountains like a speed devil. I always need a day or two to get used to the movements of skiing. And I don't want to lose two days because the vacation is already too short! I want to beat the crap out of those mountains as soon as I get there! So I already started doing some specific exercises to get ready. Here are some particular gym exercises that can help you to get ready for your awesome winter sports vacation!
The jumping squad. Your legs are the ones that work the most. You bend, use them to get forward, to slow down, to jump and to the land. The jumping squad is super dynamic and you only have to use your own body weight. It’s great for the flexibility of your knees and the strength of your upper legs.
The Russian twist. During skiing you need to twist a lot with your body to keep balance. This takes a lot of strength from your back and core. The crunch twist helps you to strengthen that part and to stay flexible at the same time. Sit down on the floor and put your body into a basic crunch position. Instead of doing crunches, pull your legs up and tap the ground from the left to the right. Want to make it a bit harder? Take something heavy in your hand. Like a medicine ball ;)
Rowing. Why rowing?? If you have a rowing machine in your gym go for it! It will strengthen up you arms to plant your ski poles. If you row you need to pull back and bend forward. It’s dynamic and increases the power in your arms.
There are so many workouts that you can do before your winter sports vacations. These three are just to get you started ;) The key ingredient is to combine flexibility training with strength training. You’ll be flying of those mountains like you have never did before! So go and do you Pre ski season workout!
