Report: SURFSET indoor surfing
Hi girls! In this report I'll tell you everything about our indoor surfing experience at SURFSET! A few weeks back, out Fit Girl Shirley blogged about this new fitness hype. After the blog, we got invited by Pieter Jens of SURFSET to try out the workout ourselves! We had a blast!
Pieter, Yola, Danique, Marloes, me and Tiziana
So, together with Fit Girls Laura, Danique, Tiziana, Yola, and Marloes from Thanks for the Energy, we went to Sportstudio Bodytime in Amsterdam and we met Pieter: an energetic and fun guy with amazing arm muscles, oh myyy! He told us about the SURFSET program: it's designed to get your body moving the way it's supposed to do. SURFSET classes are all about working your entire body in a whole new fun way. There are four classes: Build (focusing on building muscle), Balance (incorporating yoga), Burn (high intensity training) and Blend (a combination of all three).

Okay! Time to hit the planks for the very first time! It was a LOT more unstable than I thought it would be. The first minute, we all had some trouble even standing still on our planks!
The first wobbly squats were definitely the hardest!
The workout started with a thorough warming up. We did squats, paddle moves and planks. After 10 minutes, we proceeded to the Balance program. This was sooo tough! I'm not the best yogi there is, so doing all kinds of Warrior poses on a wobbly surf plank was definitely challenging! I could already tell SURFSET is a great core strenghtening program, because I was constantly adjusting my balance. We all had a good giggle trying to focus on our balance, which sometimes seemed like an impossible task.
(How cool is our #FITGIRLCODE waterbottle? I love it! Get your bottle here!)
Next up was 10 minutes of high intensity training: circuits of compound movements without any rest. This was INSANE! We did squats, lunges, high kicks, mountain climbers and even burpees. What? Yes! Burpees on a surfboard! We called them Burfees. Of Surpees. Anyway, we were all dripping in sweat!
We proceeded with Build: the program focussing on muscle strength. These moves were challenging to do on our moving surfboard, although I noticed that all the Fit Girls got a lot better standing steady on their boards! Doing more squats, push ups, Supermans and abs exercises really made our muscles burn in a good way.

Afterwards, we had a good cooling down and did some stretching. We had a little photoshoot with Pieter and made sure we drank plenty of water.
Phew! We survived! I think every girl got a small bruise somewhere from slipping or just being clumsy, but it was worth it! I think we all did pretty good, for a first time indoor surfing experience!
You gotta love those inflatable palm trees, right?
For me personally, I must say this was harder then I thought it would be! I wasn't completely "broken" at the end of the training, but I definitely had a good cardio workout while working on my muscle strength and my core stability. More importantly: we really had a blast. We laughed a LOT during and afterwards. This is truly an amazingly fun training, and I believe very effective too.
AND HERE'S THE VIDEO!
Pieter, thank you for this amazing day and hopefully we'll be back soon. We loved it!
