Ultimate tip for a happier & healthier life

The execution of this tip can be very simple, or very complicated. You can make it as big as you want, by putting loads of effort into it or doing something a bit more petite. I’m talking about doing a good deed for someone else, it sounds kind of cute doesn’t it?! It’s because doing a good deed for another is a very sweet thing to do and by doing so, you will also boost your health and happiness! It’s a win win 🙂

Ultimate tip for a happier & healthier life

I wanted to start 2015 with an original new year’s resolution, so I started brainstorming. I have a background in healthcare and I really like taking care of others. I figured it had to something related to this. After my brainstorm session I came up with the idea to start my own blog, do as many tiny good deeds as possible and write about my adventures. I named my blog ‘One tiny good deed‘. The last few months I enjoyed it so much that it kind of became a part of my happy and healthy lifestyle.

You’re probably curious to know why doing tiny good deeds will boost your health and happiness? Read on! According to the Guard Your Health research it has shown the following:

Doing good deeds gives you a sense of belonging, reduces stress, improves your self-esteem and expands your life.

They also made a super cool list to get you on your way to a healthier and happier lifestyle.

If this has got you all excited and you’re looking for more inspiration, check out ‘One Good Deed A Day‘. You can order this book here. I personally adore this lovely little book, my favorite good deed from it is ‘Smile at a stranger’. You’ll be surprised how this deed will make your day so much more fun!

Last but definitely not least. Dear Fit Girls, I challenge you to do the deed above, or any other good deed and as always I’d love to hear your stories!

Review: Get Your Teeth CocoWhite

After trying the activated charcoal I found another great (chemical free) way for whitening your teeth. Flavored coconut oil in a sachet with an instruction so easy that everybody should try it! I am amazed by the result!! I want you to meet CocoWhite!

What is it? Like I said, flavored coconut oil in a sachet. Nothing more, nothing less. 🙂 I already knew that oil pulling could make your teeth whiter but I was frankly too lazy too try it. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE coconut oil but I hate the fact that it is a solid brick below 24 degrees. Which means that you have to spoon out a piece (with some force) and the fact that oil pulling should be done every day … Nope, too lazy! But! CocoWhite has found the answer to this (lazy)  “problem”.  They’ve put the exact amount of coconut oil in a sachet. Of course it is solid but if you put the sachet under warm/hot water, then in a matter of seconds it’s liquid and ready to use. 😉 You will receive a  package with 14 sachets, so you use one per day. You can choose between two flavors, minty fresh or vanilla. I tried the vanilla version!

assorted_large

The instructions

Step 1: Squeeze sachet into mouth
Step 2: Swirl for 5- 15 minutes (I did the 15 minutes every day!)
Step 3: Spit out & smile

Easy peasy! To be honest, I am not a big fan of vanilla so the first attempt was not a pretty sight. But I pushed myself through 14 days of 15 minutes of swirling and luckily after a few days I got used to the taste. I also started seeing that my teeth got whiter after 5 days already! The only downside that I can come up with is that it is pretty hard to swirl for 15 minutes. A few times I caught myself just staring at the TV without swirling but with the oil still in my mouth. I was like ‘Oh right! I should swirl’.. But I guess that just depends on how quickly you are distracted. Keep reading for the final result!

5 Most Stylish Fitness Bloggers

Fitness bloggers – we see them everywhere. Seriously everywhere. One of my main struggles when I’m browsing for good night-time reads on these things is that I’m just too overwhelmed! Not only are there gazillions of blogs roaming through the web, but they’re also on multiple networks: Tumblr, Instagram,  websites, webshops, you name it!

So in light of making your lives a bit easier and spare you some growing time at night when all you really want to do is read and scroll through, I have collected 5 fashionable fitness bloggers. These women are inspiring, motivating and insanely driven!

1. Finders Keepers x Fit

This blog was born out of a high-end streetwear brand. Its aim was to extend from just a clothing line to a label with a focus on lifestyle, as much as fashion. I fell in love with the founder’s, Kate Anderson, most recent extension to her collection and blog to a Fitness section. She expresses her gratitude to extending her brand to something even closer to her own lifestyle and passions – Health & Fitness. Fun Fact: her motto is almost the same as ours, Anderson’s aim is to help girls around the world “achieve their full potential”.

2. Sweat the Style

This blog is everything I look for in fashion, health, and fitness. The founder, Adrianne Ho, reflects her inner wanderlust and edginess through her writing style and her approach to taalking about issues. Her aim is to portray  an active lifestyle culture and a brand devoted to fashionable fitness, natural beauty, positive health, and real food. Icing on the cake: she keeps it real by having straight-up talk about the challenges of staying fit, healthy, and stylish in our ever-changing, fast-paced modern environment. Hence her creation of a fun community to stay fly, strong, nourished and most importantly hydrated.

3. Jen Selter

An all time classic. I don’t think you can get much more motivation from anyone else! Known as Instagram’s best ass, Jen Selter does not fall behind on the list of my top fitspo bloggers. This instagram sensation shares workout videos to get killer bootays and abs as well as day dream photos of beauty locations and a top notch

4. Sporteluxe

This blog is run by a full-time power girl — Australian Bianca Cheah. What started out as her personal blog about fitness and fashion, soon developed into a cult following. Being affiliated with some leading health and fitness experts and top sports brands, Sporteluxe incorporates informative into their fresh and spunky equation, which is something that I usually weight strongly when I follow a blog. And when it comes to article topics, they do not run short! From beauty, fashion, drinks, health, lifestyle, food, etc, I can guarantee you will not exhaust all the recent topics in one go 😉

5. Fashercise

This last blog, which was originally just a webshop as well, covers all things  health, fashion, and beauty. What first attracted me to them was the fact that their brands vary from big names to smaller independent young designers — which already says a lot about the essence of their brand. Secondly, the two best friends and founders Alex and Cam reflect their spunk and humbleness by really showing that they are real girls, living real lives, and they aim to reach just the same. The website is all about keeping fit, but having a blast and looking great doing so.

5 Health Benefits of a Glass of Red Wine

If there is one thing in the world you love the most after chocolate, what would it be? For me, it would be wine and I think a lot of girls will agree with me. Unfortunately, I always have the feeling that wine isn’t always as good for you. You can imagine my surprise when I found out red wine has a lot of benefits. Since wine is the favourite drink for a lot of women, I am going to lay it down for you. No more guilt tripping while your drinking your delicious grape beverage ladies!

First, let me tell you a little about the history of wine. Once upon a time, wine was considered as an healthy option. The ancient Egyptians and Romans used wine for health benefits and it even played a major role in medicine. Wine was considered as a way to disinfect wounds and drinking wine was seen as a means to maintain a healthy balance in the digestion system. It was only until the late 19th century that views changed about the consumption of wine. Because of the alcohol which is an inherent part of wine, governments and the people began to research the negative aspects of alcohol and what it can do to your body and brain. Of course, the results weren’t always as positive concerning the effects of alcohol.

Nevertheless, recent studies provided more positive feedback about the consumption of red wine (such as the French Paradox). Nowadays, people recognize the healthy benefits red wine can have on the body. Since we love red wine and love to drink it in our favorite yoga pants, we summed up our 5 favourite health benefits red wine can have on your body and mind.

Red wine is…

1. Good for the heart

One of the ingredients in wine called resveratrol, which is an antioxidant. It has been proven to be a protector of your heart and arteries. For example, resveratrol battles cholesterol. This is a good thing, because it eventually improves your cardiovascular health. Moreover, research that has been done on the heart and the drinking of red wine shows that moderate drinkers of red wine are less susceptible to heart attacks.

2. Good for your teeth

Although red wine can make your teeth look like you’ve just slaughtered someone, the drink is actually good for your teeth. According to a study red wine fights certain bacterias and this helps to prevent cavities in your teeth.

3. Good for your immune system

A 2001 study illustrates that drinking wine is actually pretty good for your immune system. The results suggested that red wine may have a protective effect against a common cold. People who drink red wine are therefore less likely to get a cold. How awesome is that!?

4. Good for your mental health

Spanish study from 2013 even suggests that wine may prevent depression. For this research, they analyzed the participant’s food intake and mental health. People who drank around an average of 7 glasses of red wine per week, were less inclined to have a depression. If you’re feeling down, just drink that glass of wine you’ve been wanting to have!

5. Good for your eyesight

Wine incorporates a compound that is called resveratrol (yup, it’s the same compound which makes wine good for your heart), it can also be said that wine is good for your eyes according to a study from 2010. Resveratrol stops the growth of blood vessels. ‘Why is that important?’ you might think. Well, the growth of blood vessels will decrease your eyesight.

So sit back, relax and drink your favourite beverage with pleasure. However, as it goes for everything, moderation is key. These research results were only applicable if a particapant moderately drank wine. For women, doctors suggest one glass of red wine a day. That’s why I want to introduce a new motto:

A glass of wine a day, keeps the doctor away!

3 reasons why a sport and foodlog helps you to achieve your goals

It seems like everywhere you go, gyms try to seduce you with their ads and their superdeals. Collegues suddenly celebrate their birthdays with homemade oat cookies and even your lazy ex boyfriend is posting a workout selfie. Yup, it’s that time of the year again. Everybody is trying to get into shape before summer.

Gaining a few pounds in the winter can happen to anyone, but we rather want to get rid of this wintercoat before summer shows up. If you want a summer body, working out is a must. However, don’t forget to eat healthy, it’s part of the deal. You can squat until you’re passed out, but if you don’t say bye to Ben & Jerry not much is going to change.

If your intention is to eat healthier and to work out, we suggest to keep a sport and foodlog. With this, we don’t mean that you have to count your calorie intake obsessively. No. But keep in mind how much you exercise and what you eat. It’s a useful tool in order to create your sexy summer body. That’s why we’ve summarized a couple of reasons on why should you make use of a sport and foodlog.

Avoid dissapointment

If you keep track of your daily food intake, you will become more conscious about your nutrition. You might think that that small piece of cheese and the leftovers from your pan don’t matter. But if you sum up all those little bites, you’ll eat a whole extra meal every day. If you don’t realise this, this will only get you frustrated.

Get to know your body

Do you suddenly notice you make a lot of progress? Or do you feel like you’re not achieving anything at all? Check your diary what could be the case. Did you eat something different the last couple of weeks or did you work out more? If you get to know your body and on what it reacts positively or negatively, you can adjust your workouts and food.

Honesty is the best policy

If you decide to use a sport and foodlog, be honest to yourself (and your trainer). Although it wasn’t a fantastic day and you cheated with some chocolate and wine, do fill out everything you ate. If you did not reach your goal at the end of the week or month, you know what the issue was (it has to be a realistic goal though). Only if you’re honest in keeping up with your food and working out schedule, it can help you to realise your goals.

Don’t be afraid. You don’t have to keep track of your sport and foodlog for your entire life. If you integrated working out and a healthy diet, your sport and food log will become self-evident.

Personally, we believe that My Fitness Pal is a great way to keep track of daily food intake. The app has an endless database with food and if your brand or product isn’t there, you can scan your barcode. A couple of girls from the #FITGIRLCODE crew also created their sport and foodlog. Take a look at their sport and foodlogs and be inspired! Don’t forget that every body is different and that your body may have different needs when it comes to working out and food.

My favourite workOUTfit

I like to run. But when it’s winter time, it can be pretty hard to find the right clothes that fit the weather. It can be pretty cold outside, so you have to dress properly. However, you also have to find clothing that is not too hot when you’re working out. Decisions, decisions.. Here’s my favourite workOUTfit that I wear when I am running outside during winter time.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Long Tights

Long tights are the perfect solution for a run. They’re warm enough to not freeze to death outside and they’re not too hot when you’re working out. Furthermore, I love leggings, especially when they have a cool design. In this picture I’m wearing the long tights from Jogha. I chose for for these long tights since they have a nice and striking print while I keep the rest of my clothes pretty neutral (Except for the shoes of course ;)). Nice to know: this print is called the Ikat print.

Why dry body brushing is the bomb

Forget about body scrub, dry body brushing is hot and happening and definitely worth trying!

What is dry brush exfoliation?
A dry brush exfoliation involves the use of a soft, dry, natural brush to gently brush the skin. It is used in spa’s and recommended by holistic practitioners to remove dead skin cells, improve the circulation of blood and lymph, and to enhance detoxification through skin.

Your skin is the body’s largest organ and the body’s first line of defense. In addition to exercising or getting massages, skin brushing will enhance and speed up the body’s release of toxins by also encouraging exfoliation, blood circulation, and new cell growth. The purpose of dry brushing is to stimulate blood and lymph flow, and to remove toxins from the body. It can also be very relaxing. Some sources also claim that dry brushing can smooth fat deposits and reduce cellulite. YAY!

Benefits of dry body brushing

  • Helps prevent premature ageing.
  • Opens the pores to release stored toxins.
  • Softens deposits of hard fat below the skin and prepares them for discharge.
  • Allows excess fat, mucus, cellulite and toxins to actively discharge to the surface rather than to accumulate around deeper vital organs.
  • Relieves stress through meditative action of rubbing the skin.
  • Calms the mind.
  • Helps muscle tone
  • Promotes circulation.
  • Activates the lymphatic system, especially when scrubbing underarms and groin.
  • Creates a profound and loving relationship with the body, especially parts not often shown care, and especially for a person with body image problems.
  • Reduces muscle tension.
  • Reenergizes in the morning and deeply relaxes you at night.

Step-by-step guide to dry body brushing
  1. It’s best to dry brush first thing in the morning before you shower. Start with light pressure until you’re used to the sensation, then move on to firmer strokes.
  2. Use a natural bristled brush (I use a brush I purchased at The Body Shop) or a loofah as a second choice. Avoid synthetic or nylon brushes or gloves as they’re too sharp and can damage the skin.
  3. Start with the soles of your feet, use swift upward strokes and brush from the feet, up the legs, working towards your heart.
  4. Once you’ve covered your lower body, move to your hands and work up your arms toward your heart in the same manner.
  5. Next (using a long handle brush or get your partner to help out), brush your back.
  6. Last, work on your abdomen (moving in a clockwise direction to follow the movement of the colon), chest and neck. It’s best to avoid your face as most people’s facial skin is too sensitive.
  7. Always shower after you dry brush to wash off the dead skin.
  8. Keep a separate dry brush for every member of the family, and be sure to periodically wash it.

You can brush anywhere from 2 – 20 minutes depending how much time you have, obviously the longer the better. Your skin may be a little pink afterward, but it shouldn’t hurt – if it does, you need to lay off the pressure!

Important notes:

  • Do not brush over sunburn or inflamed or irritated skin.
  • Avoid breasts & genitalia area.
  • Wash brush after use to remove dead skin cells.
  • Brush from your feet upward and toward your heart.
  • Drink a glass of hot water and lemon to help jumpstart your digestive system.

Did any of you ever tried dry body brushing?

Sometimes I just like to be not-so-FITGIRLCODE and snuggle up on the couch with my new bestie: Netflix. and my old besties chocolate and tea. Not just for a while…nope. This thrilling, exciting and astonishing serie should definitely be on number 1. And there is good news: The show is set to air 12 new episodes in 2015. Don’t worry if you missed earlier seasons! Just watch one episode and you will end up at season five within a week for sure!

Orange is the New Black
Funny, yet a bit dark and sometimes heartbreaking. This TV serie tells the story of Piper Chapman. She is in her mid-thirties and sentenced to fifteen months of prison for a decade-old crime. Piper is really doing her best to behave nicely between all the other female inmates but that’s not as easy as it seems. Even though she struggles with her new life in jail she manages to grow some friendships. But with friends come enemies. All the characters in the show are so ‘real’ that you just can’t stop watching. The episodes are both hilarious and heartbreaking and that’s what makes it awesome!

Fifty shades of Grey
Even though this isn’t really a serie I still think it belongs here. Just because it’s Fifty Shades. You probably loved it or hated it but I’m sure most of us are going to watch this as soon as it’s released the 12th of January! At least there are three parts so it’s kind of a miniserie right! Let’s see how Mr. Grey and Ana work out on screen instead of paper!

Heroes (mini serie)
Yay! Heroes is about to return as a Miniserie in 2015! The original serie is about a group of four people that slowly realise they have extraordinary powers. Togetherness
A comedy that follows two couples living under the same roof who struggle to keep their relationships alive while pursuing their individual dreams. “Some people have it all figured out, these are not those people” is the headliner of this show. Sounds a bit like ‘Friends’ meets ‘Big bang theory’. The first season (8 episodes) are released on January 11th, ready to watch!

De Patatgeneratie tested Jogha’s Ethnic Unique Long Tights

Sabien from De Patatgeneratie wrote an awesome review on her blog about the Jogha tights! We translated it for you to see what she has to say about the Ethnic Unique tights.

I can be very critical when it comes to sports clothes. Tops are just fine when they’re only 10 euros and from H&M, but when it comes sports bras, I can get really picky (I have a huge scar on my thorax from one of my old sports bras). The same goes for tights, leggings or whatever you want to call them 🙂

Back in the day, you wouldn’t caught me dead in tights when working out. The results of years of cycling, snowboarding and hockeying all in combination with my short legs =  a no-go for tight pants. Until one day I ran in a tights…I was hooked immediately. Since then I’ve had a preference for the Nike Epic Tights which in my opinion couldn’t be defeated by any other.

That’s when I saw that Aranka from #FITGIRLCODE launched Jogha, a Luxury Sportwear line. It looked good. Especially when Annemerel wrote a review saying the tights were of the same quality as the Nike Epic tights. And even though the Nike Epic tights are really good, I was getting a little tired of the Nike marketing machine. I got the chance to test the Jogha tight and that’s just what I did!

The last couple of weeks I took spinning classes, ran, did yoga, strength training and a body pump lesson and I watched a lot of Netflix in my Ethnic Unique Long Tights. I also washed them 3 times. Do you want to know my real, honest and not-sponsored opinion?

  • Pocket = Plus. Muy importante! A pocket in the waistband for my key when I go for a run.
  • Waistheight = Good. Not to high (my first tights came up to my armpits, like a strapless jumpsuit) and not too low which means you don’t have any crack when squatting.
  • Material = Nice and sturdy! Without any problems it survived the squat- & cellulite test! (I asked my boyfriend to check if he could see my underwear while I was holding 60 kilos in my neck).
  • Chord = Present. When you go for a run in a tight that slides down your butt, you can really get in a bad mood and you have to stop to pull up your pants. A real no-go.
  • Design = Brilliant. Seriously, I really love tights with prints. However, I’m only 1.66 metres and I have sculpted, firm legs. Not always the best combo. Nevertheless, this design is especially made for you so that your legs look slimmer and your butt less big. Moreover, this is all accompanied by a nice print. I think they did a great job.
  • Price = Ok. Back in the days, I would not have paid €75 euros for a legging. But after my Hema, H&M and Primark tights that were so incredibly bad, it’s better to invest in a durable tight of 75 euros in stead of tights that are see through, slide of your butt or tights in which you don’t feel comfortable in. If you sum up tof he prize all the cheap tights, it’s more than 75 euros.

In short: It’s a good pair of tights. Nike Epic quality, but with an even better (!) design and now one of my favorite tights in my tight collection. You can buy your Jogha clothing here and because this is a review, I also included some pictures of the tight. Shot by Object d’Amour.

My Christmas wishlist

It’s almost Christmas and that means it’s time for presents! I love to make wishlists. That’s why I wanted to share my wishlist with you guys!

 Reading books

I love to read. When I’m reading I have a moment to myself. I always get lost in the story and it feels like I’m in another world. My favorite writers are Nicci French. They write the most exciting books that you just can’t put away. You  can’t stop reading! This year I would like to have Complicit.

Jumping Ropejumping rope

As a kid, I loved my jumping rope. Good news, jumping a rope is pretty good for you. Fit Girl Roos already wrote an article why you should try jumping rope. This article definitely motivated me to try it! I found this beautiful jumping rope from Nike.

My hair always gets in the way when I’m working out. This headband is perfect and very fashionable! I can even wear this headband during the day combined with a casual outfit or I can wear it to a festival.

A girl can never have enough clothes, right? I love clothes that have a comfortable fit, but still look good. You can wear this sweater on a casual night on the couch or just combine it with a pair of leather skinny jeans and you’ll be ready to go! And you now get 20% discount in our webshop! Yay!

What’s on your Christmas wishlist? 🙂

Sporty Chique

If you spend a lot of time in the gym, your sports clothes become just as important as your ‘normal clothes’. You don’t want to be seen in the same outfit everytime you’re doing your workout. Moreover, new sports clothes are a good motivation to keep you going when you’re in a fit dip.

fgc2

Nowadays, you see a lot of sports clothes and sneakers outside of the gym. According to us, this is a really good development! Don’t get us wrong, we love high heels and a beautiful dress, but sometimes you just don’t feel like wearing all of those clothes. Of course, this doesn’t mean that you should wear your worn out jogging pants with some flipflops and white socks. There are the most beautiful alternatives that feel just as comfortable. The sporty chique trend is now reaching its highest levels. Even on the catwalk you’ll see that outfits are more often combined with sneakers and models are wearing the most fashionable leggings. It looks like the fashion world is getting more and more acceptable towards the always-on-the-go woman and we think this is a nice development! Honestly, can you go back and forth for a whole day on heals? We think it’s physically impossible.

fgc3

Nowadays, you can go grocery shopping or drink a cup of coffee with your friends in a bar in your fashionable sports clothes. Of course, don’t fool yourself by only socializing in your sports outfit. Wear these leggings during a killer workout as well. If you feel good in what you wear, you can truly shine in what you’re doing!

Be sure to go to our webshop, because there are no shipping costs! Every order over 75 EUR in The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany won’t have any shipping costs. Also every order over 150 EUR worldwide will also have no shipping costs. YAY! Be sure to order quick so you’ll have your goodies before xmas!

Jenny’s review on Jogha

Jenny from Healthyfans made an awesome review on Jogha: the new fashionable sports brand. Because we liked it so much, we decided to translate it and to share it with you!

Jenny: Started as an idea, evolved into a garment to help you discover the badass within. I couldn’t really believe it. Your own brand of clothing?! That’s so awesome! Aranka, I am so incredibly proud of you. A couple of weeks ago, me and some other Fit Girls such as Annemerel, Esmee & Laura were asked to do a fotoshoot for Jogha. These pictures would be used for a spread in Cosmopolitan Magazine. If I wanted to join? HELL YEAH! Unfortunately, I couldn’t make it that day. I was really bummed out, but I had to do an important exam.. ARGH!

Rock your world!

Since we’ll be running on Rock & Run, we have to look rockalicious! During our run, but especially after our run when we’ll be enjoying awesome music (such as Memphis Maniacs, BL3NDER and Weslo!). But how do you transform yourself into a rockchick while you have to run and party at the same time? Well, we’ve tried to figure out something that you will hopefully like!

Basics

Let’s start with the basics. The best way to make you a true rocker girl is to get some basic items that you can easily transform into a rock outfit. The best way to do this is a black running pants (black = a true rock color and you can combine this color with almost everything).

Of course, you can’t go running without a shirt on. So what to do next? Find a shirt (well, that was kind of obvious). But what kind of shirt? We at #FITGIRLCODE are going to wear one of our #FITGIRLCODE shirts, because you have the chance to spot us and win an awesome prize.

Next step

Now that we’re done with the basics, it’s time for the next step to pimp up your running gear. When you’re done, you don’t want to change your clothes all out in the open. And you don’t have to with these tips! Find a checked blouse to get that old American look and wrap it around your waist. This will bring you one step closer to becoming a rock chick.

Alright, let’s move onto the shoes. You can change your shoes very easily. You don’t need a changing room, so that’s a perk. If you want some kind of tough outfit, go for some rocking boots.

That little extra

To make the look exquisite and absolutely rockalicious wear a head bandana. This will make you an ultimate rock chick (think about music videos from the 80s, all girls wear bandanas!). For tips on how to wear a bandana and do some awesome make-up (I would go for the cat eye look) check out our Pinterest page on hair & make-up!

Last but not least, don’t forget the bling that makes you sing! A rock chick has to have some jewelry of course, especially knuckle rings and a beautiful necklace. These awesome items will make your outfit ready to rock everybody’s socks off.

Are you getting down for this amazing event? Buy your tickets here and let the rock ‘n roll begin.

No stress: Treat yourself with beauty products

I love to treat myself by giving myself little presents like facial masks or special shower products. Sometimes a girl just gotta relax and what better way to do this with beauty products? I’ve selected some products that will definitely help you to relax in our sometimes busy and stressful lives.

Facial masks

It’s good to protect the skin on your face against irritations from outside. Especially with this hot and sunny weather, because your skin can become too dry. This facial mask will restore the humidity balance of your skin.

Conditioner

This hot weather requires some extra care for your hair. That’s why I picked out this conditioner that helps the hair restore its natural balance.

Reed diffuser

A couple of weeks ago I came across these babies and I love them already! These will make your house smell like fresh washed laundry and who doesn’t like that smell? Moreover, it  is also super easy, just put these somewhere in your house and they will radiate the nice smell.

Scrub

This scrub hydrates and cleans your skin. Try this out: before you go on summer vacation and get a tan, scrub your body. This will remove all the dead skin cells and makes place for new ones. When you get tanned, this will happen on the new ones and as a result will make your tan last longer.

What is oil pulling?

So the internet is filled with people trying oil pulling and everybody seems so be psyched about it. Now I am quite a curious monkey and I want to try it too. I did a little research and this article will be the first part, next time you will be reading more from me about oil pulling, it will be with the results!

What is Oil Pulling?

First things first
So what is oil pulling? Oil pulling, also known as “kavala” or “gundusha,” is an ancient Ayurvedic dental technique that involves swishing a tablespoon of oil in your mouth on an empty stomach for around 20 minutes. This action supposedly draws out toxins in your body, primarily to improve oral health but also to improve your overall health. The reported benefits include:

  • Whiter teeth
  • Cavity and gingivitis prevention
  • Better breath (halitosis suffers also reported greatly improved morning breath)
  • Stronger teeth and gums
  • Less jaw pain (TMJ sufferers noted great improvement)
  • Improvement of sleep problems and sinus issues
  • Alleviation of headaches
  • Hangovers and skin issues (reports have shown improvement in acne, psoriasis and eczema)

How it’s done

Put 1-2 teaspoons of coconut oil into the mouth. I think I’m going to use an organic coconut oil. Scoop it out as a solid and let it melt in your mouth before swishing.

Swish for 20 minutes. This is long enough to break through plaque and bacteria but not long enough that the body starts re-absorbing the toxins and bacteria.

Spit the oil out. Do not swallow the oil as it is hopefully full of bacteria, toxins and pus! IEW!

Rinse well with warm water. They say warm water seems to clean the mouth better. Swish a couple of times with warm water.

Brush well. Make sure you clean your mouth afterwards.

So I’m starting Tuesday with oil pulling and intend to do it for a month. I will take a before picture of my teeth so we can see the results. Wanna try it with me?

Top five must follow blogs

There are so many awesome blogs out there, which ones should you follow? I’m a bit new to Bloglovin (I know, I should be ashamed of myself), so I am not following a lot of blogs yet. However, I do have some favorites already! They range from fitness to fashion, from food to feel good. Check out my top 5 of must follow blogs at the moment!

  1. Anne Solveig
Besides the fact that her blog is awesome, Anne is a really sweet girl! I’ve talked to her personally recently, and that makes her blog feel even more personal than it already is. This 21-year-old Dutchie blogs about fitness, food, fashion, make-up, city trips, and personal stuff. These topics are all balanced out and provide you with more than enough reading material. It is a light and easy read and is perfect to wake up with in the morning, so do check her out! Unfortunately you need to understand Dutch to read it (sorry international fit girls!).
  2. Fashercise
Fashercise is the work of Alex and Camille, two Belgian best friends living in London. They post about a wide range of topics and believe that fashion and exercise should and can be combined. And wouldn’t we all like to look pretty while sweating like a pig? And if this isn’t enough already, they also discuss food, music, beauty & wellness, and gadget, with a dish of humor served on the side. Check out this blogpost, one of my favorites!
  3. Georgina Poh
Georgina is so cute! She has a great sense of style and many inspiring work out ideas. Her food pictures make me think of the couple of months I spent in China and make me want to go back there! Ah well, I’ll just have to drewl over her food pictures, unless someone would like to sponsor a trip? (big puppy eyes)
  4. Food and Lycra
The girls from Food & Lycra look like so much fun. Just by taking a look at their blog, you see how much they are enjoying their fit journey together. They are the best example of why you should have a BFFF (Best Fit Friend Forever)! Laura, Kim and Rachel blog about fitness, but also about food and fashion. What’s not to like?
  5. Follow Fashion
I am not very good at spotting the first fashion trends and I don’t have super-awesome-pretty-stunning-fashionable clothes, but I do the best I can with the budget I have. Follow Fashion basically updates me on all the new trends so I get some inspiration for new outfits or how to combine that one shirt I have never been able to combine so far. They also blog about fitness, health and lifestyle, so definitely a must-follow. It is in Dutch though, but you can still go there for fashion inspiration even if you don’t understand the language.

Do you have any blogs for me that I should definitely follow? I would like some more to add to my Bloglovin feed!
